The revised tablet introduced a new design that included front and rear-facing cameras designed for FaceTime video messaging. It can now message with iPhone 4, fourth-generation iPod Touch and a Macintosh computer (with Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later).[12] The iPad 2 added a dual core Apple A5 processor with doubled processing speed and graphics processing that is nine times faster than the previous ipad.[13] iPad 2 offers CDMA2000 support for Verizon Wireless orGSM/UMTS support for AT&T in the United States.[14] The device is 33% thinner than the original iPad and is also thinner than the iPhone 4[15] and 15% lighter than the original iPad.

The sound system can play in mono, or if attached to the Apple Digital AV Adapter, it can play Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Its audio range is from 20Hz to 20 000Hz.
